Tap to Watch
The FilmTrade Tap to Watch™ Card is a compelling and convenient way to sell films that theater patrons can collect or gift.
Filmmakers are already leveraging FilmTrade cards at in-person events to make limited edition sales during festival and theatrical windows, create durable engagement with audiences, and increase awareness for their film.
Theaters can make the most of the post-viewing moment, when audiences are most receptive and motivated, to route them past a retail counter for additional sales of the film.

FAQ
-
We see home viewing and collecting films as a different activity than watching in the theater, and are actually in support of one another: they add to local awareness and theatrical demand. While we don’t believe that FilmTrade cards undercut theatrical sales, we understand that some venue owners would have this concern. We offer two configuration options that help address this:
Filmmakers can choose to configure FilmTrade cards as “delayed drop”, allowing audiences to purchase FilmTrade cards now, but only allow the film to be watched after a digital release date in the future. This customization makes it easier us to work with theaters to ensure that your local screenings are completed before home viewing is enabled.
Filmmakers can choose to configure cards as “Consumable” (a single 72h play, like a VOD “rental”) so that each card sale = 1 viewing.
-
Theaters can benefit from stronger engagement with the film via FilmTrade cards. Earn more on average from each in-person audience member.
Selling FilmTrade cards also allows theaters to make additional revenue from films that that they weren’t able to program, or that they screened in the past that some patrons missed

At FilmTrade, we’re interested in beginning to build channels for filmmakers to self-distribute by utilizing a local film ecosystem, including theaters, video stores, and bookstores.
We want independent filmmakers to be able to find support by leaning more into local organizations.
We want local theaters to share in success and revenue from home viewing, and become hubs for local and independent filmmakers.
We want audiences to be able to support filmmakers and easily help to share and advocate for films they like.
